What Is Tyre Rotation and How Often Should It Be Done?

Front and rear tyres do different jobs and therefore wear at different rates. Tyre rotation aims to even out wear by regularly changing the tyres' positions.

Why is it necessary?

On front-wheel-drive cars, the front tyres carry both the driving and steering loads and wear faster. With rotation, all four tyres can be replaced at the same time and grip stays balanced.

How often should it be done?

The general recommendation is to rotate tyres every 8,000-10,000 km. Doing it during the seasonal tyre change is a practical approach.

When rotation is not possible

  • Staggered tyres: when front and rear sizes differ, tyres cannot be moved from front to rear.
  • Directional tyres: can only be moved front to rear on the same side.

What to do alongside rotation

During rotation, balance should be checked, and if there is uneven wear a wheel alignment should be carried out.
