When Should You Fit Winter Tyres? The 7°C Rule
One of the most common questions in late autumn is when to switch to winter tyres. The short answer: when temperatures regularly start to fall below 7 °C.
The 7 degree rule
The compound of summer tyres hardens below 7 °C and grip decreases. Winter tyres use a compound that stays flexible in the cold and a tread pattern designed for snow, slush and wet roads. They therefore make a difference not only in snow but also in cold, wet conditions.
When to switch in Bursa
In central Bursa, morning temperatures usually fall below 7 °C from mid-November. If you often drive towards Uludağ, İnegöl or Keles, switching in early November is recommended.
Are winter tyres mandatory?
Winter tyres are mandatory for commercial and passenger transport vehicles during the winter period. There is no general requirement for private cars, but they are recommended for safety. Please check current dates in official announcements.
What to check during the change
- Wheels should be balanced when tyres are changed.
- Winter tyres should have at least 4 mm of tread depth.
- Summer tyres should be stored in a cool place away from sunlight.
- Cars with run-flat tyres need suitable fitting equipment.
Book a seasonal tyre change to be served without waiting.
