Summer, Winter and All-Season Tyres: The Differences
Choosing the right tyre depends on the climate where you live and how you use your car.
Summer tyres
They have a harder compound and fewer sipes in the tread. Above 7 °C they provide the best grip and braking distances on dry and wet roads.
Winter tyres
They have a compound that stays flexible in the cold and a densely siped tread that grips snow and slush. They carry the mountain and snowflake symbol (3PMSF).
All-season tyres
They balance the characteristics of summer and winter tyres. They are a practical choice in regions with mild winters and for city driving. Look for the 3PMSF symbol for winter suitability.
Markings on the tyre
- M+S: indicates a design for mud and snow, but is not a winter certification on its own.
- 3PMSF: indicates tyres tested in winter conditions.
Which is right for you?
If you drive in cold, hilly areas in winter, for example often towards Uludağ, winter tyres are recommended. For mainly city driving, all-season tyres can also be suitable. Contact us for a tyre change.
